Harry Mayronne
A pianist, composer, musical director, producer and puppeteer, Harry Mayronne Jr. was raised by artists and music lovers; his late father was a graphic artist who also managed the Olympia Brass Band and owned a talent booking agency. His mother is the grandchild of English Music Hall performers. Harry was exposed to an eclectic mixture of music, and began his classical piano training at age six.
Harry’s versatility has placed him in demand in cabaret, jazz, the legit theater, and comedy. This summer Harry traveled to Berlin with the Pfister Sisters to serve as Musical Director for their show “Sing! Sing! Sing!” In New Orleans he has been the Musical Director on nine occasions for The Big Easy Awards, and in 2004, served as M.D. for the New Orleans production of hit off-Broadway musical BOOBS, based on the life of naughty 50’s chanteuse, Ruth Wallis. He has led The Harry Mayronne Jazz Band on many occasions at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans, and in Chicago, Cincinnati and New York City. Harry recorded Every Day Is Mardi Gras In Heaven with the band, and he has also recorded with the Olympia Serenaders (featuring members of the Olympia Brass Band). He has composed music for many years with a variety of lyricists, and he scored the Canadian feature film “Lana in Love” which screened at the Berlinale in 1992. He has coached or accompanied many stars working in New Orleans; Harry was the piano coach for Mario Van Peebles for the feature film Blue Bayou and accompanied Martin Short at the NATPE Convention. Harry has frequently worked as an accompanist to Grammy winner and Tony nominated singer, BJ Crosby (Smoky Joes Cafe).
Outside of New Orleans, Harry has been a featured performer in shows at Symphony Space and The National Arts Club, both in New York City, and he has been the musical director for several artists appearing in New York Cabarets. Harry Mayronne is a truly unusual artist, and in New Orleans, he enjoys the ultimate muse. Harry also performs with his marionette creation Miss Viola, most recently in Bustout Burlesque and Galatoires Monologues.
