New Orleans Performing Arts Month

Thursday October 4 - Wednesday October 31. All Day

To celebrate the high-caliber of performing arts events happening in New Orleans this October, the Arts Council of New Orleans in collaboration with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Musical Arts Society of New Orleans, New Orleans Ballet Association, New Orleans Opera Association, New Orleans Friends of Music and Southern Rep Theater have declared October as New Orleans Performing Arts Month.

From world-renowned Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo, American cellist and virtuoso Yo Yo Ma, revolutionary modern dance company Pilobolus, to New Orleans own internationally-acclaimed jazz musician Wynton Marsalis; local performing arts producers are hard at work maintaining New Orleans rich history of cultural excellence and expanding opportunities for new audiences to grow an appreciation of the arts.

“This October marks unprecedented access for locals to experience some of the top performers of the worldwide cultural stage,” Arts Council of New Orleans Interim Director and CEO Mary Len Costa said. “New Orleans Performing Arts Month is a collaborative effort to highlight the superb work local cultural organizations are doing to bring top-of-the-line talent to our community, cultivate local talent and increase the accessibility of the performing arts to New Orleans audiences.”

Numerous free performances will take place across New Orleans this October, encouraging locals to explore and enjoy new performing art forms. New Orleans Performing Arts Month coincides with National Art and Humanities Month and officially joins New Orleans in the largest annual celebration for arts and humanities in the nation, collectively recognizing the importance of culture in America.
