NATURE’S FORMS
BRAD ROBERTSON and DAVID KIDD
February 4 – 25, 2012
Opening reception: Saturday, February 4th, 6 – 8 pm

Octavia Art Gallery is pleased to present Nature’s Forms, an exhibition by artists Brad Robertson and David Kidd. Through their preferred mediums, these artists explore the use of texture, line, and color with a focus on indigenous landscapes and botanical forms.

Born and raised in coastal Alabama, Brad Robertson was initially inspired by the area’s native trees and bodies of water. In his college studies, an art professor discovered his ability to work with color, which sets the tone for his paintings, and texture, which creates depth in his work. Brad has now spent more than a decade working to combine these elements of color and texture in his work to evoke eternal, multi-layered shorelines, landscapes, horizons and portals.

In David Kidd’s work the paint becomes its own creative force, as it drips and drives down the surface of the canvas, creating its own network of veining and pattern. Kidd then adds and removes paint in response to what the paint has left behind, creating organic focal points and anchors within the composition. This layering, editing and re-editing functions as a meditative dialogue between the artist and the painting, allowing mystery and unpredictability to enter into the process, producing work that is centered around botanical references while still being atmospheric and undefined.

Brad Robertson and David Kidd have shown their work both regionally and nationally, and their works are included in notable private and corporate collections.
